Walking into El Balazo on a sunny Saturday afternoon, El Balazo was surprisingly empty with only one or two folks enjoying their burritos inside. The joint was quiet.

I proceeded to order a Carne Asada Burrito. Writer's Note: Mi amigo suggests that the vegetarian burrito's are the way to go here, but I feel the Carne Asada is the best possible entry point for first-timer burrito consumers, providing a benchmark for the quality of ingredients without much risk.

The burrito "schleper" didn't really care about me or my burrito. The burrito was what I like to call "regional"—if you will—rice regions, meat regions, etc, compartmentalized inside the tortilla. This would be excusable, if it weren't for the fact there was an inordinate amount of noticeably dry rice in my burrito, dwarfing the other ingredients in volume by a factor of two. The meat, also dry, was cut into ginormous pieces. I found one piece to be as big as playing card. The two of clubs.

One highlight were the salsa varieties. In addition to the normal green and red salsa of varying hotness, there was a green salsa that was made up of small pickles and full garlic cloves. This salsa wasn't all that great, but they get some bonus points for uniqueness. Hence the high marks in the garnish category. —Matthew P. Ouellette, Burritobot Correspondent
